Why do i get the trouble with “error: cannot find module '../lib/utils/unsupported.js'”?

I get the “error: cannot find module '../lib/utils/unsupported.js'” issue when trying to run "Ionic start project name". Here is the detail of the error I got the error message:

The cause:

This error occurs due to the library isn't supported, so you will not able to load it.

Solution:

Let's reinstall node and remove /usr/local/lib/node_modules/npm to solve this error. This will work fine.

If your MacOS is with Homebrew, below guggestion will help you.

sudo rm -rf /usr/local/lib/node_modules/npm
brew reinstall node

I followed the instructions and reinstalled my node. This error occurred to me.

Warning! The post-install process failed. You can try again with brew postinstall node

This command was executed.

sudo chown -R $(whoami):admin /usr/local/lib/node_modules/

Then, he ran

brew postinstall node

require('../lib/utils/unsupported.js') in ./lib/node_modules/npm/bin/npm-cli.js is responsible for the error Cannot find module '../lib/utils/unsupported.js'.

The nodejs require Docs states that the module to be searched is relative to the file as it begins with ../.

If we take the relative path ../lib/utils/unsupported.js, starting at ./lib/node_modules/npm/bin/npm-cli.js, then the required module must be in ./lib/node_modules/npm/lib/utils/unsupported.js. There are two possible options if it isn't there:

npm does not symlink with ./lib/node_modules/npm/bin/npm-cli.js. This is the reason for my error. npm will usually find it by searching the directories in the PATH environment variable. For example, it might be found in ./bin. npm should not be placed in ./bin. It should, however, be a symlink only to ./lib/node_modules/npm/bin/npm-cli.js. If the code is not a symbolic link but contains the code directly, the symlink was replaced by the file linking to it during the installation. Any answers suggesting that you should check the NODE_PATH config or npmrc configuration should be ignored. These are not considered in the search for modules relative.
