♦ Relevant knowledge

The constant for solubility (Ksp) represents the equilibrium formula for the case of a solid that is partially dissolving in water (an an aqueous solution). This is used in determining if the formation of a solid occurs when two reagents that make an insoluble substance are mixed. If the concentration of the products surpasses Ksp value then a solid is created.

    First, express the Ksp value for C2D3 using molar solubility.

    C2D3 = (2x)2(3x)3= 108×5

    Next, set the equation equal to your constant of solubility

    9.14×10-9=108×5

    x=9.67×10-3

    The molar solubility of a compound is therefore 9.67×10-3
