    Concept and reason

This concept is used to draw the Lewis structure for the compound.

    Fundamentals

A Lewis structure is a structure of a molecule that shows the bonding between atoms within molecule, including the single pair of electrons.

First, identify the valence electrons to which each atom contributes. Next, identify the central atom to draw the skeletal structure. Next, ensure that each atom meets the octet requirements by adding multiple bonds (if necessary). The rest of the electrons can be drawn as single pairs.

    1. Consider .

One Boron atom is present, and three fluorine atoms are also present.

Each B atom has 3 valence electrons. Each F atom contributes 7 to the valence electrons.

    Valence electrons in BF, 3+3(7)
-24

Boron is the central F atom that three F atoms are bound to.

    As follows:

The skeletal structure above contains 6 valence elements. Therefore, the remaining 18 valence electrons can be found in the remaining skeletal structures.

Boron can only form three bonds

Assign the 18 remaining electrons by adding three single pairs of electrons to each F-atom.

The Lewis structure is as follows:

    :F-B.

Except for boron, all atoms can satisfy the octet.

    Ans Part 1

The Lewis structure for is :F-B.
