Oxidation Number

The oxidation number can be defined as the charge found in an atom the form of the molecule. In a compound that is covalent, the oxidation numbers are assigned according to an atom’s electronegativity. A atom that has a higher electronegativity is assigned an oxidation number that is negative as is the atom with a lower electronegativity is assigned a positive oxidation number.

    Primary radicals: These radicals are those in which the carbon atom of the free radical is bonded to one carbon, and not two carbons.

    Secondary radicals: These radicals are those in which the carbon atom of the free radical is bonded to another carbon atom.

    Tertiary: A group of radicals in which the carbon atom free from a radical is bonded to threecarbon, and no other bond with hydrogen

    Allylic: The radicals in the carbon atoms of free radicals are bonded to a doubly bound carbon.
