The three components of an atom are Subatomic particle types: protons neutrons and electrons. We can classify protons, neutrons, and electrons based on two fundamental characteristics that are charge and mass. Charge is the electric property of the particle, regardless of whether it’s positive, negative or neutral. Mass is merely a measure of the amount of substance the particle is.
IUPAC stands as international union of pure and applied chemistry. The IUPAC nomenclature has been used to identify organic compounds. The IUPAC name is composed of three parts: the root name, suffix and prefix.
These are the rules for naming a compound:
1. Name the longest continuous carbon link.
2. Name and identify the groups that are attached to this chain.
3. Start at the end closest to a substitute group and number the chain sequentially.
4. Each substituent group location should be identified by a number and a name.
5. Assemble the name by listing the groups alphabetically using the full name (e.g. Cyclopropyl is before Isobutyl
6. When alphabetizing, the prefixes di and tri (or tetra, etc.) are not taken into consideration. They were used to denote several types of the same type.
This is the structure:
Three substituents are present in the structure, two of which are methyl and one ethyl.
Ans:
Thus, the systematic name of the compound is 1-ethyl-2,4-dimethylcyclopentane.
