A constant velocity does not mean that an object is accelerating. Acceleration is only possible when the velocity changes. If the velocity changes at a constant rate, then the object will move with constant acceleration. The SI system of units uses m/s2 to indicate acceleration. Motion accelerates when it is in the same direction, decelerates when it is opposite, and changes direction when its acceleration vector differs from the direction. Acceleration = Δv/Δt
