There are a variety of reducers that are employed to convert alkynes into alkanes, or alkenes. When a highly reactive metal such as Palladium or platinum is employed many of the alkynes will be transformed into alkanes. However, when reagents such as calcium carbonate are addedto the mix, the reactivity is reduced.

Strong oxidizing agents

These are the ones that boost the state of oxidation of an atom of the compound.

It includes Potassium Dichromate, Postassium permanganate etc.

They convert alcohols that are primary directly into acids.

It is difficult to create an aldehyde by using powerful oxidizing agents.
