This is the program I run:
> dput(head(df))
structure(list(`10` = c(0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), `33.95` = c(0, 0,

## Plotting
meltDF = melt(df, id.vars = 'MW')
ggplot(meltDF[meltDF$value == 1,]) + geom_point(aes(x = MW, y = variable)) +
scale_x_continuous(limits=c(0, 1200), breaks=c(0, 400, 800, 1200)) +
scale_y_continuous(limits=c(0, 1200), breaks=c(0, 400, 800, 1200))
After I run, it returns an error
Error: Discrete value supplied to continuous scale
Does anyone have any suggestions for my problem: error: discrete value supplied to continuous scale in the r. How to correct it?
I see that you’re using continuous scale scale_x_continuous(), scale_y_continuous(), therefore, the discrete value is not allowed in the position scales of your data frame. In your case, you were trying to create a continuous scale on discrete value containing characters. That’s why the above error occurred.
You just need to convert your meltDF variable to numeric, as suggested by the ItTutoria team above, in order to solve the problem.
If
x
has numeric value, addscale_x_continuous()
to it. Ifx
has character/factor values, addscale_x_discrete()
. This could solve your problem.Your continuous scale is currently created on a discrete value containing characters rather than a continuous value, you need to convert that value to numeric, below is our suggestion:
Then, just run your
ggplot
command above
