Naming Compounds:

The first step in naming compound is to establish if the compound is covalent or ionic. Ionic compounds are bonded by charges , and are typically metals as well as nonmetals. Covalent compounds share electrons and are typically two nonmetals.

    Concepts and Reason:

The systematic names of different compounds of transition metals must be determined. To name a compound, the systematic names must follow a set of rules that include its description and oxidation states.

    Fundamentals:

These are the rules for the systematic name of transition metals:

+ Separate the anionic and cationic parts.

+ Enter the name of the cation in the periodic table.

+ Next, in Roman numerals, put the oxidation state for the metal ion in parenthesis.

+ Add a suffix “ide” to the root element’s name to write monoatomic anions like halogens, oxygen and nitrogen.

    Answer:

    A. Copper (I) iodide

    B. Iron (III) oxide

    C. Cobalt (II) fluoride. It is made through the reaction of anhydrous cobalt with hydrogen fluoride. The result is pink crystal solid with antiferromagnetic properties when temperatures are low.

    D. Iron (II) oxide
