How much work is done on the gas in the process shown in the figure?

Revelant knowledge

Thermodynamics focus on the energy of heat and its interactions with the surrounding matter. In the wake of this energy, the change on the physical properties of matter occurs. The majority of thermodynamic research is based upon the two thermodynamic laws that are fundamental to thermodynamics.

The term “work” generally refers to the alteration in some degree caused by the actions of a generalized force. Particularly the work that is done by a gas can be attributed to the change in size of its gas. It is defined as: W=∫pdV

If we depict the changes caused by the gas by a PV diagram the work area is defined through the process.

The Work done on a gas: When the gas is expanded or compressed by the control of external pressure, it is then worked on it. When gas expands then the work done to the gas will be positive. If the gas expands, the work performed on the gas is negative.

    Concepts and Reason

This concept is what solved the problem.

Divide the space below the curve into a rectangle or a triangle and find the area of that rectangular space. Next, find the area in the triangular space. Then, add the areas together to calculate the work completed.

    Fundamentals

Gases can work against external pressure by expanding or compressing. This is known as pressure-volume work. This is the expression that describes the work done.
