It is the VSEPR theory, also known as electron-pair theory of valence, describes the shape of compounds. It is based on the assumption that electrons are arranged in a way so that they do not repel each other (negative charges repel the other charges) within the valence shell. The atoms that surround the central atom could be arranged using bonds (single or triple) and also as single pairs or even non-bonding electrons.
