The total momentum of particle(s) remains the same when there is no external force acting upon the system. One of the most common examples is shooting with guns. When the gun is fired, and the bullet is moved forward and the shooter feels an impact from the gun. The force exerted by the rifle is due to the system’s tendency to preserve momentum. The bullet travels forward while the rifle is pushed back.
