The term “systematic” for organic compounds includes a variety of characteristics, e.g., the number of carbon atoms within the carbon chains that are longest substitutions, the functional group, chemical stereochemistry in the chiral central as well as other features.
The correct IUPAC name is 1,5-dimethylcyclopent-1-ene. As shown, the numbering of ring C atoms follows. The numbering of the ring C atoms is done so that those C atoms with double bonds get the lowest locants. The lowest locant is also given to the C atom that causes the first branching. It is the first C atom in our example.
