♦ Relevant knowledge
Based on electrostatic charges’ law the same charges are able to be held close to one another without limitations as they create the force of repulsion against one another. This force is proportional the sum of the force of the charges to be considered, and ininverse proportion to the distance between them. This is also true for different charges, but the force that is exerted upon the other is attractive in the natural world.

From the given diagram we can conclude that the polarity of charges A, C, D are the same as the test charge is getting repelled in these cases. Therefore, the force between the charges A and C will be strongly repulsive if they are brought in each other proximity.

So,the correct answer is 2, strongly repulsive.

    Concepts and Reason

Property of charges is the concept that solves the problem.

To determine the cost of the plastic balls A or C, first use the property to charge.

The property of induction, charges and force determines the nature of the force between the plastic balls C and A.

    Fundamentals

Electric Charge:It’s a property of matter which causes it to feel force when placed within an electromagnetic field.

These are the properties of an electric charge:

    1. The electric charge is quantified.

2.Conservation charge: This states that an electric charge cannot be created or destroyed.

3.Opposite Charges attract one another and similar charges repel the other.

These are the two ways that charge can be transferred between the bodies.

    (a) Charging by conduction

    (b) Induction charging

Both the bodies receive the same type charge in the charging by conduction process when they come into contact with one another.

Take a positively charged metal sphere and a neutral item. The sphere is in contact with a neutral body when the excess electrons from the metal sphere move towards the neutral object. This evenly spreads the electrons across both bodies. This causes the neutral object to acquire a negative charge, while the metalsphere retains its electrons but is less charged.

If there is a positively charged metal plat and a neutral globe, the electrons of the neutralsphere attract towards the positively charged plate. At the end, the neutralsphere becomes positively charged.

This charging method is called “Charging through conduction”.

The charging by induction technique uses a charged object to induce charge on an object. The charged object is used only to induct charges (electron movements) on the neutral object. The electrons from the sphere move towards the ground when the ground is touched to it. This causes the overall charge of the sphere to become positive.

This charging method occurs without contact and is called “Charging via induction”.

The test charge attracts strongly to plastic balls A if it is closer to them. The plastic ball A charges a negative charge.

The test charge attracts weakly to the plastic ball C and thus is neutral in nature. Therefore, due to the charging via induction, a negative charge develops on the plastic ball C side where the test charges are brought near.

Because the plastic ball C is negative charged, and therefore ball A will attract to ball C, the area of the ball C that is closer to A will become positively charged, and so the ball C will attracted to A.

    Ans:

The force between balls C and A will be weakly attractive.
