  • c) They are both structural components of the plant cell wall
  • d) They are both polymers of glucose
  • e) They are cis-trans isomers of each other

Relevant knowledge

Cellulose and starch are considered as two important examples of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates, a group of macromolecules made from sugar, can provide structure and support to cells as well as providing quick energy. Based on the number of sugar molecules they contain, there are three types:

  • Monosaccharides are made from one sugar
  • Disaccharides are made from two sugars
  • Polysaccharides are made from three or more sugars

Two types of polysaccharides found in plants are starch and cellulose. They have different functions and structures. Starch can be used primarily for energy storage, while cellulose can be used to support structure and support.
